On Mallorca’s quieter southwestern coast, Calma Pilates offers a more considered way to stay active while travelling. Founded by Mallorcan sisters Marina and Paula, the studio brings together focused movement, Mediterranean simplicity and the kind of unhurried atmosphere that makes wellness feel like part of island life rather than another appointment on the itinerary. With reformer Pilates, barre and individually considered instruction, Calma is an appealing alternative to the oversized hotel gym or highly programmed wellness retreat.
The studio sits in Costa de la Calma, a relaxed coastal community between Santa Ponsa and Peguera. Its name could hardly be more appropriate. Inside, white linen curtains, softly curved arches, rustic Mallorcan details and generous natural light create a setting that feels both polished and personal. This is Pilates with a genuine sense of place: calm in appearance, precise in practice and considerably more challenging than the surroundings initially suggest.

A Homegrown Vision

Calma Pilates began with Marina’s return to Mallorca after several years of living and working abroad. Originally trained as a veterinarian, she later followed a growing interest in movement, physical awareness and a more intentional approach to everyday life. Her Pilates education was completed through Peak Pilates, while her barre training came from The Barrefit Studio in Barcelona.
Today, Marina is joined by her sister Paula, whose background includes personal training and time spent working as a diving instructor in Asia. The sisters bring different but complementary energies to the studio. Marina’s teaching is calm, intuitive and closely observed, while Paula contributes a more dynamic athleticism shaped by her connection to movement and the sea. Together, they have developed Calma into something that feels distinctly personal: professional without becoming clinical and uplifting without drifting into wellness clichés.
Location & Access

Costa de la Calma is located within the municipality of Calvià on Mallorca’s southwest coast. It is an easy addition to a holiday based around Santa Ponsa, Peguera, Port d’Andratx or the luxury hotels of the Calvià coastline, while Palma can also be reached by car.
The surrounding area is residential and naturally quieter than the Spanish island’s larger beach resorts. Rocky coves, pine-framed coastal views and access points to the Mediterranean establish a slower rhythm—ideal for travellers who want to combine movement with swimming, walking and long lunches rather than fill the day with formal treatments.
Sessions should be booked in advance, particularly during Mallorca’s busiest travel months. Calma handles reservations directly and also provides information on workshops, events and private training upon request.
The Studio

The interiors capture the softer side of contemporary Mallorcan design. Large windows bring daylight into the practice space, while pale surfaces, flowing curtains and architectural arches keep the room visually calm. Rustic details prevent it from feeling overly polished, giving the studio the warmth of a private island home.
Calma uses Balanced Body reformer equipment, creating a purposeful contrast with the relaxed setting. The machines allow instructors to adjust resistance and provide a controlled, full-body workout that can be tailored to experience level and individual goals. The result is a space that photographs beautifully but still places the quality of movement first—a refreshing order of priorities in the age of the highly Instagrammable wellness studio.
The Calma Experience

Classes are designed around awareness, posture, strength and control. Reformer Pilates uses springs, straps and a moving carriage to support precise movement while adding resistance where needed. Sessions can strengthen the core, improve stability and encourage better alignment, with instructors adapting the practice according to the participant rather than forcing everyone through an identical routine.
Pilates barre combines elements of traditional Pilates with barre-based exercises. It places greater emphasis on controlled repetition, balance and smaller muscle groups, creating the familiar shake that suggests the session is working even when every movement appears deceptively graceful. Flexibility and postural awareness remain central, but the class carries a slightly more energetic rhythm.
Calma’s greatest strength is the attention behind the instruction. The studio’s approach is not about rushing through a sequence or chasing exhaustion for its own sake. Movements are deliberate, technique matters and the instructors understand when to increase the challenge and when to offer support. Beginners can establish the fundamentals, while experienced practitioners receive enough precision and resistance to make the class worthwhile.
Wellness Without the Performance

Mallorca has no shortage of spas, retreats and elaborate wellness programmes, but Calma represents a simpler—and arguably more sustainable—version of feeling well. A session can become one meaningful part of the day instead of taking over the entire holiday.
There is no requirement to disappear into silence for a week, surrender a phone or pretend that green juice is lunch. Guests can arrive for a focused class, reconnect with their bodies and then return to the pleasures of the island. That balance feels particularly suited to Mallorca, where wellbeing is often found as much in the landscape, food and outdoor lifestyle as it is inside a treatment room.
A Slow Morning in Southwest Mallorca

An ideal Calma morning begins with a pre-booked reformer or barre session before the heat settles over the coast. Afterwards, continue towards one of the small coves around Costa de la Calma for a swim, or follow the shoreline in search of a quiet place to sit beside the water.
Lunch can unfold in nearby Port d’Andratx, Santa Ponsa or Peguera, depending on whether the mood calls for a polished harbour restaurant or something more casual beside the sea. Travellers with a full day available can continue north into the Tramuntana foothills or return towards Palma for galleries, shopping and dinner in the old town. The class provides structure without dictating the day—the sweet spot for any good holiday ritual.
Keepsakes

Calma Pilates captures a side of Mallorcan luxury that has little to do with grand gestures. Its appeal lies in natural light, attentive teaching, beautiful equipment and the feeling of being welcomed into a locally created space. Marina and Paula have built a studio that reflects the island they know: grounded, energetic and closely connected to the Mediterranean way of living.
Travellers may arrive expecting a scenic Pilates class, but the lasting impression is more subtle. It is the pleasure of moving with greater awareness, feeling stronger without feeling rushed and discovering that one of Mallorca’s most memorable wellness experiences can fit comfortably into a single morning.
